10 Most Polarising Movies Of 2017

4. Cars 3

Split James McAvoy
Pixar

Most people will tell you Cars 3 is an improvement on its predecessor, which isn't difficult considering Cars 2 is regarded as a rare bump in the road for Pixar, but no fewer claim it joins the second instalment among the studio's weakest efforts to date.

There's no denying the latest sequel is chock full of the buoyancy and stunning visuals Pixar is renowned for, and that was enough for some critics and cinemagoers, though others felt it lacked the wit and poignancy of the firm's best movies.

That said, some reviewers were adamant Cars 3 is a cut above its two predecessors with more emotional weight. One even described it as "the Rocky III Of The Cars Franchise", which could be a criticism as much as it is a compliment.

Love it or loathe it, Cars 3 performed decently at the box office, raking in $383.6 million worldwide, which could well turn out to be enough to put a fourth film on the road to the big screen in the future.
