Doctor Octopus AKA Otto Octavius - played by Alfred Molina - appeared in Sam Raimi's Spider-Man 2. He was a scientist who had built a set of mechanical arms that would enable him to handle renewable fusion energy without endangering himself, but the hands took on a life of their own and attached themselves to his body. They gave him great power, but they also influenced his psyche in a negative way. He became a villain and came into conflict with Spider-Man. The great mobility and strength that the arms possessed made him more than a match for the Webbed Wonder. He could climb buildings, throw cars around, block projectile weaponry with ease and, most impressively, throw Spider-Man around like a rag doll. His body was still as vulnerable as the average human's, but the impressive protection granted to him by the mechanical arms rendered him safe from most attacks anyway.
