10 Most Powerful (Fictional) Women Of 2015

3. Ms Marvel

Introducing a new character under the name of a fan favourite is always going is always going to be a risk. So when Marvel announced in 2014 that a new character would be taking on the title of fan-favourite Ms Marvel, readers were understandably nervous. Of course, they weren't getting rid of Carol Danvers, who had already evolved into the new Captain Marvel at this stage.

Not only is Karmilla Kahn one of the few Muslim super heroes in the world, she's also the only female Muslim hero to have her own title in mainstream comics. While the first issue (published in 2014) went into an almost unprecedented sixth run, Ms Marvel is now one of the company's biggest sellers, dominating the more diverse digital comics market. And with Karmilla set to appear as a permanent member of the All-New Avengers later this year, it looks as though Ms Marvel is only going to grow in popularity in the future.

The character's significance only became more obvious in 2015 when her ongoing series was nominated for five different Eisner Awards, as well as a Hugo.

With a (nearly) useless degree in English literature and a personal trainer qualification he's never used, Freddie spends his times writing things that he hopes will somehow pay the rent. He's also a former professional singer, and plays the saxophone and ukulele. He's not really used to talking about himself in the third person, and would like to stop now, thanks.
