10 Most Powerful Sci-Fi Movie Villains
7. Clover - Cloverfield
A large part of the success of the 2008 found footage horror film Cloverfield -from The Batman director Matt Reeves - is the behemoth creature that is obscured for most of picture's runtime.
After a group of friends have a farewell party for one of the characters, against the backdrop of strange earthquakes and occurrences near the coast of the city, the head of the Statue of Liberty is hurled through the streets - and this is how we're introduced to Clover.
As the military constantly try and fail to subdue the creature, Clover rampages its way through New York City. To make matters worse, it sheds smaller tick-like monsters that spread around hunting anyone unlucky enough to stand in their path.
Along with the normal civilian characters who serve as our protagonists, we watch as repeated efforts from the military prove ineffective and only serve to irritate the monster.
In the climax of the film, Clover suffers a targeted bombing raid known as the Hammer Down protocol, designed to put the beast down for good - although the movie itself chooses to neither confirm nor deny whether this attack was successful.
