10 Most Powerful Sci-Fi Movie Villains
3. Agent Smith - The Matrix Franchise
At first a servant of the Matrix itself, obeying the bidding of the system, Agent Smith soon became a virus-like entity that continued to grow in power until he was seemingly unstoppable.
Possessing a pure hatred of humans, Smith's goals were found to be in direct opposition to that of Neo's, but he soon found himself against the Machines and humans alike once he set out on his own as a free agent.
Now armed with the ability to infect any human or program in the Matrix which allows him to absorb them before duplicating himself, Smith became a significant force that only Neo could hope to stop. After he absorbs the Oracle, Hugo Weaving's character gains the power of being able to see into the future - which only adds to his arrogant and smug display.
Weaving is particularly fantastic as the world-dominating nihilist, and he relishes in the untouchability that Smith feels. Despite being outsmarted by Neo and the Machines, Smith actually beats Neo in their final one-on-one fight, which just illustrates how powerful he had become.
If he hadn't have been stopped, Agent Smith would have likely assimilated into the Machines and taken over the real world. as well.
