10 Most Rewatchable Films This Decade (So Far)

8. The Grand Budapest Hotel

Tom Hardy Fury Road
Fox Searchlight

There are no shortage of great films in Wes Anderson's eclectic filmography, but few of them are as relentlessly enjoyable as The Grand Budapest Hotel. It's a film which seemingly delivers a simple plot, yet somehow manages to cram it full of a deceptive amount of narrative and thematic detail, matching the attention to detail found in the sumptuous production design.

Ralph Fiennes delivers one of the best performances of his career as M. Gustave, concierge of the titular hotel. He enlists the help of new lobby boy Zero Moustafa after he's falsely accused of murder, launching the duo on an adventure to clear his name.

Boasting one of Anderson's sharpest scripts, the ensemble cast delivers the dialogue with aplomb while capturing the kind of rapid fire pacing of classic screwball comedies (and guaranteeing you'll miss some of the gags on the first viewing).

It's also a wonderful ode to classic filmmaking, toying with aspect ratios and with exception use of miniatures, particularly during the hilarious ski chase sequence. More than anything, it's the cheerfully warm tone of The Grand Budapest Hotel which had audiences returning for repeated viewings and once again explore the fictional Republic of Zubrowka.
