2. Thunder Goes Boom - Big Trouble In Little China (1986)
This highly entertaining eighties romp featuring Kurt Russell as Jack, a bumbling truck driver who thinks hes an action hero, caught up in the attempts of ancient Chinese wizard Lo Pan to regain his human form. Legendary director John Carpenter directed the movie, a hodge-podge of various drafts of an original script written by first time screenwriters. It definitely shows, the work coming across as uneven and poorly paced, but Big Trouble has enough fun aspects to it that it sails over the potholes. Lo Pans henchmen are the Three Storms, unstoppable warriors who take down all in their path: Rain, Lightning and Thunder. At the climax, a lucky throw of a knife brings Lo Pan down, leaving Thunder face to face with Jack and his friends. Seeing his master fallen, and realising that hes failed to protect him with his life, Thunder grows incandescent with fury and then begins to swell. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AKQKE0JfXtA Thats right: one of the films great antagonists commits seppuku by inflating himself to the point that he literally explodes from a combination of rage and dishonour.
