10 Most Ridiculous Movie Marketing Campaigns

8. Chucky Kills The Competition - Child's Play (2019)

Last year's Child's Play remake wasn't all that memorable, but the marketing campaign for it sure was, especially when it decided to sling some mud at its box office competition.

Child's Play was set to release on June 21, 2019, the very same day as Toy Story 4, and so the movie's marketing team released a series of posters showing Chucky violently murdering the beloved characters from Pixar's iconic animated franchise.

Some of the more discomforting deaths include Rex being burned with a lighter, Hamm getting smashed with a hammer, Buzz being shot with a laser gun, and perhaps worst of all, Slinky getting roasted on an open fire (a hot dog, get it)?

However, a Photoshop-savvy Toy Story fan fought back, mocking up his own impressively gnarly poster depicting the toys getting revenge on Chucky.

It didn't end there, though: because fellow possessed doll movie Annabelle Comes Home was due to release a mere five days later, a Child's Play poster was released showing Chucky breaking into Annabelle's storage unit and decapitating her with a knife.

As much as these posters are clear parody, Disney is notoriously protective of their IP, so it's pretty impressive that United Artists managed to get away with this.
