10 Most Ridiculous Oscar Snubs Of All Time

5. The Dark Knight - Best Picture

2009's Oscars were a complete travesty, with several highly-acclaimed films such as WALL-E, Revolutionary Road and The Wrestler failing to scoop Best Picture nominations despite massive acclaim. Meanwhile, the less well-received The Reader made the Best Picture slot, primarily because it was an Oscar baiting pic, and silly voters were fooled by it, thinking it's what they "should" vote for. However, there's one film that was snubbed in the Best Picture field that year that trumped all other injustices, and so prominent was the outcry that the following year, the Best Picture field was opened up from 5 nominees to 10. That film is The Dark Knight, one of the most acclaimed and beloved Hollywood blockbusters of recent years, a film that challenged the status of the comic book adaptation and showed the potential they had to be grand, exciting and emotionally resonant all at once. Easily the best film of 2008, it was a painful Oscar ceremony seeing Christopher Nolan's superhero opus only pick up technical awards, while Slumdog Millionaire instead made off with the lion's share of the gold.
