10 Most Ridiculous Oscar Snubs Of All Time

2. Steven Spielberg - Best Director (Jaws)

Granted, 1975 was a pretty fierce year for contenders in the Best Director category - the nominees ended up being Milos Forman (One Flew Over the Cuckoo€™s Nest), Robert Altman (Nashville), Federico Fellini (Amarcord), Stanley Kubrick (Barry Lyndon) and Sidney Lumet (Dog Day Afternoon) - but given the revolutionary work that Steven Spielberg did on Jaws, was he really not worthy of a nod? With Jaws, Spielberg created the summer blockbuster and essentially altered the course of filmmaking as we know it, though I guess at the time it wasn't realised quite how profound and wide-spread this effect would be. It must've been extra galling for the director given that the film itself did receive a Best Picture nomination, though it goes without saying that Spielberg wound up being nicely compensated for the snub once the Academy saw Schindler's List and Saving Private Ryan.
