10 Most Ridiculous Pieces Of Product Placement In 2014 Films

8. The Theory Of Everything's Laundry Detergent

Who says the product placement in a worthy historical drama has to bash you over the head, though? It was Eddie Redmayne's performance as Professor Stephen Hawking, as he slowly succumbs to the paralysing symptoms of motor neuron disease whilst trying to continue his ground breaking theoretical psychics research, that got most of the plaudits. All that culminated in Redmayne getting the Best Actor gong at the recent Academy Awards thanks to his starring role in The Theory Of Everything. But that isn't what audiences should be focussed on. They should be focussed on the frankly ridiculous product placement given to Tide washing detergent, nominally in a meet-cute scene discussing how they make clothes look brighter, which was in fact a somewhat cynical attempt to get the product name out, especially for an international audience: it could've been Daz, but they don't have that in America, see.
