9. Yves Saint Laurent Had It Right In The Title

The trailers for this French biopic didn't feature a whole lot of dialogue. Or, actually, any dialogue at all - partly that's because distributors of foreign films in English-speaking countries are often loathe to admit that this is a film with subtitles, opting to trick potential viewers into seeing their films on false pretences. Only on phrase is said, in fact. Right at the end of the trailer, after bombarding you with images of a bunch of cool, chic Parisian outfits being designed and tailored by cool, chic people of undefinable sexuality, a voiceover says: Yves Saint Laurent. It's a movie trailer, but it's presented more like an advert for a clothing line. Which is essentially what Yves Saint Laurent is. The feature-length retelling of the titular French designer's rise to the top of the fashion industry was made in co-operation with the label of the same name, meaning it's essentially a ninety-minute long commercial for their clothes. Couple that with the label's logo and name on the poster, and that's some pretty overwhelming advertising.
