10 Most Ridiculous Pieces Of Product Placement In 2014 Films
4. The Whole Of The LEGO Movie
Whilst Phil Lord and Chris Miller's colourful celebration of those plastic Danish building blocks does indeed wield hidden depths, there's no real denying of the true intentions behind The LEGO Movie. It's a feature-length commercial for the increasingly expensive children's toy, and it's not particularly subtle about it, either. The plot of the movie express the virtue of creativity, ignoring the instruction booklet and coming up with your own wild and wacky LEGO structures and vehicles. Yet, walking out of the film, you could then hot-foot it to Toys 'R' Us and pick up boxes containing all of the major set-pieces, characters and cars from the film. This one is particularly galling because LEGO essentially suckered a huge amount of the cinema-going audience into paying for the privilege to watch an advert. A very entertaining advert with some surprising cast members and a catchy soundtrack, but still. Literally every frame of The LEGO Movie is product placement, more or less.
