10 Most Ridiculous Uses Of Product Placement In Movies

1. Tropic Thunder- I Got The TiVO!

Matt Tivo Tropic Thunder is one of the finest comedies to come out in the last decade. It features a phenomenal performance from Robert Downey, Jr. as a method actor who wants to challenge himself by playing a black man. It's maybe the funniest thing I've ever seen. There's also the TiVO. Throughout the film, Ben Stiller's spoiled action star Tugg Speedman is represented by his loyal agent Rick (played by Matthew McConaughey in the role that made me realize that he didn't suck, right before I wrote an article about it for What Culture). Allegedly, Tugg had it in his film contract that he be supplied with a TiVO, which the studio and production crew have promptly ignored. Angered that his client isn't getting the pampering he deserves, Rick flies him the TiVO himself, arriving in Vietnam just in time to use it to save Tugg from an incoming RPG. That's right. Matthew McConaughey hurls a TiVO in front of a missile and saves the lives of the entire crew, including Jack Black in a funny supporting turn. And it is truly glorious to behold.
