10 Most Ridiculously Unearned Movie Twists Of All Time

1. Into The Space Between Spaces - Indiana Jones & The Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull

It's not hyperbole to say that Indiana Jones & The Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull was the most eagerly-awaited sequel of all time. What was perhaps a little hasty on all our parts was to think for a nano second that it would best Raiders (iconic, everything is iconic), Temple Of Doom (monkey brains!) or The Last Crusade (capering with Connery, a match made in heaven).

But that doesn't mean this fourth coming of Dr Jones was that bad. Harrison Ford was back to his gruff best, the film's eponymous MacGuffin was intriguing and both the return of Karen Allen as Marion Ravenwood and introduction of Shia LaBeouf's greaser scamp completed a motley crew, headed off on a rip-roaring adventure.

The problem came during the finale, where a jungle scramble paved the way for a showdown at an Amazonian temple - Indy vs the Ruskies. Fantastic. But it wasn't fantastic, more fantastical, given the battle is broken up by visitors from the planet... erm, well not so much a planet, more a space between spaces. Shudder.

By the time John Hurt gets cod eye and Cate Blanchett's head pops off its stalk, viewers had forgotten they were watching their favourite movie franchise and were instead whisked off into post midnight SyFy channel territory. Surely they couldn't have staged a dust up between Indy and the aliens? Now that would have been an ending.
