It isn't just the fact that John Doe encapsulates pure, unadulterated evil that makes it so satisfying to finally see him take a bullet to the dome. It's also the fact that up until about ten minutes before his death we hadn't even seen John Doe. Instead he'd remained a malevolent, unseen presence throughout Se7en.

Plus, our two intrepid detectives never even technically caught the guy, he turned himself in. This is something that really should have been unsatisfying but instead it only feeds the tension leading up to the eventual fatality. The guy's death is made all the more special because of the fact that he planned the whole damn thing - with some frankly insane and intricate detail - that's how dedicated he was to his supposed cause.

Doe also succeeded in what he set out to do from the very beginning, which isn't something any other villain on this list can really boast of. He succeeded specifically because of his death. Now that's a damn satisfying death in terms of narrative!
