7. Castillo - House Of The Dead

Look, no one's saying that House of the Dead has a highly cerebral storyline or stellar performances or is even remotely good or any of that business, but, come on, you don't always want lobster or scallops, okay? Sometimes you want a bucket of chicken... or a bucket of burgers... or a big bucket of terrible, Uwe Boll horror. Just as long as it comes in a bucket.

Castillo's death in House of the Dead is satisfying firstly because he's got all the right tropes going for him. A legendary figure who's part of the setting's history? Check. An evil priest excommunicated for being sort of a necromancer? Check. Used his own experiments in order to become immortal and raise the dead? That's a big check.

Secondly, his death is satisfying for the simple fact that good god damn is it visceral as all hell! He survives an explosion first, so logically he gets into a sword fight afterwards, during which he's beheaded. An inconvenience, sure, but not as much as you'd think.

Castillo doesn't follow your standard zombie rules about beheadings, he just keeps on going, right until his head's stamped on and squished. It's gross, it's gory, it's schlocky and it's smooshy, and we'll take a bucket of it, thank you.

Johnny sat by the fire, idly swirling his brandy, flicking through the pages of War and Peace, wondering whether it was pretentious to write his bio in the third person.
