10 Most Shocking Jump Cuts In Horror Movie History

7. Hereditary (2018) - Charlie's Head

Saint Maud - Ending
A24

Hereditary, the feature debut from Midsommar director Ari Aster, is a masterful meditation on trauma which follows a family fall victim to the sinister plans left behind by their estranged grandmother after her death.

The death of the matriarch is already enough to unsettle the family and open some old wounds; but things worsen for them when Peter (Alex Wolff) is asked to take his introverted sister Charlie (Milly Shapiro) to a party.

Desperate to get rid of his sibling so he can spend time with a girl, Alex tells her to get some chocolate cake. What he doesn’t know, though, is that the cake is loaded with a ridiculous amount of nuts, which she's extremely allergic to.

She subsequently has an extreme reaction and needs to be taken to the hospital. But the unthinkable happens when Peter swerves and Charlie strikes her head against a post.

Although we don't see the body, our worst fears are confirmed the next morning when we hear Toni Collette's gut-wrenching cries of anguish. It’s only now that Aster lets us see what happened to Charlie with a jump cut from Alex's shocked expression to Charlie's bloodied and ant-covered head lying beside the road.
