1. Boogie Nights
A big step in Mark Wahlberg making the transition from Marky Mark to an actor know in equal measure for his turns in award favourites (The Fighter, The Departed) and video game flops (Max Payne) was a starring role in Paul Thomas Andersons Boogie Nights. Telling the story of Wahlbergs Eddie Adam/Dirk Diggler, we see his lowly dishwasher rise to become a porn star. The film is typical of Anderson, showing the rise of an imperfect character. His second film, it cemented him as a talent to watch while making Wahlberg a viable star. The films ace is the nudity, or that for the better part of it there is none. Eddie rises to fame on the back of his ridiculously large member, which the film delights in never giving us a glimpse of. It is only in the last scene, where we see Dirk preparing to shoot a scene, do we see in the mirror just what the fuss was all about. It may be clearly a prosthetic, but that doesn't stop the scene being brilliant. Yes, its not real and yes, we only see the reflection, but no other film on this list has male nudity as such a key plot point and it is for that reason Boogie Nights takes the top spot.
