Okay, so Planet Terror is technically not one of Tarantinos. Directed by Robert Rodriguez as part of a Grindhouse double bill, alongside Tarantinos Death Proof, its a beautifully fun homage to the kind of B-Movies you got in the Grindhouse days of old, playing with continuity, purposefully missing reels and giving us a lead with a machine gun for a leg, Planet Terror had it all. It also had a cameo from Quentin himself, playing a soldier, reliant on a nerve gas to ensure he doesnt fall to pieces and melt. When he decides he wants to have his way with Cherry Darling (Rose McGowan), he takes his gas mask off and his body begins to mutate and fall apart. As the scene builds, the level of mutation increases, with old school splatter house effects as Tarantino continues to try and force himself on Cherry - much to her objections. The effects become grosser as the scene progresses, but none of us expect the very disgusting shot of his mutated balls slowly peeling away from his body and falling to the floor with a dull, squelchy thud just before he gets shot. Like all good gross out shocks this one makes you want to turn your head and curl into your body.
