10 Most Stunning Comic Book Movies Ever Made

3. Logan

Logan Hugh Jackman X 23
Fox

More elegiac western than it is superhero smackdown, this unexpectedly poignant farewell to Hugh Jackman's tenure as Wolverine is a genre-bending masterclass that more than deserved the plaudits it received - and finally gave Fox's X-Men stable a bonafide all-time classic to match the finest efforts of their peers.

Much of what helped it stand out from the crowd though was its palate; a dustbowl, sun-parched worldview that, in its most illuminating shots, straddled the line between the billowing skies of John Ford and the scorched violence of Mad Max. Lensed by John Mathieson, it's a beautifully raw effort, soaked in the colours and shadings of its appropriated trappings - and never once feeling like its vision is just for show.
