10 Most Stupid Characters In Classic Horror Movies

9. Dracula - Renfield

Tucker And Dale Vs Evil
Columbia Pictures

In Francis Ford Coppola's adaptation of Bram Stoker's Dracula, the character of R.M. Renfield is an attorney working for the firm of Hawkins and Harker. He's assigned to negotiate the sale of an estate in Purfleet, which includes Carfax Abbey, to a Transylvanian nobleman who goes by the name Dracula.

After returning from his trip to Transylvania, Renfield is completely and hopelessly insane. He's placed into the care of the Seward Sanitarium. He spends most of his time eating small insects and worms, which he believes transfer their "life" into him.

Before his trip, anyone who knew him would have said Renfield was intelligent, but his intellect took a severe hit while on his trip to Transylvania. He swore to serve his master in exchange for making him immortal. The master is, of course, Dracula, who could turn him into a vampire.

Choosing to become immortal isn't altogether stupid, but defying the person who could make you live forever was decidedly a stupid thing to do. When Wilhelmina came to the sanitarium for protection, Renfield becomes lucid to the point of warning her of his master's intentions.

Within moments, Dracula turns into a mist, makes his way into Renfield's cell, and slams his body repeatedly until he's dead.
