2. Charlie Graham - Hereditary
Ari Aster's incredible debut Hereditary was quite ingeniously marketed to throw audiences off the scent of its big, brutal shocker of a death.
When teenager Peter (Alex Wolff) is invited to a party, his mother Annie (Toni Collette) makes him take his younger sister Charlie (Molly Shapiro) with him.
Peter quickly abandons Charlie at the party, where she eats a chocolate cake containing nuts, triggering her nut allergy and sending her into anaphylactic shock.
An extremely high Peter then frantically drives Charlie to the hospital, and just as she leans out of the window for air, Peter swerves to avoid a dead animal in the road.
This causes Charlie's head to strike the pole, and as we learn a few devastating moments later, decapitate her.
Given that the cleverly edited trailers suggested Charlie had a much larger role in the entire movie, it was genuinely shocking to see her offed so suddenly, and in such upsettingly stomach-churning fashion no less.
