10 Most Sudden Deaths In Horror Movies You Never Saw Coming

3. Ellie Creed - Pet Sematary (2019)

Though 2019's Pet Sematary remake wasn't great, you have to hand it to the filmmakers for finding a way to surprise even those well-acquainted with both Stephen King's source material and the original 1989 movie.

In both the novel and original film, it's the Creed family's son, Gage, who is tragically killed by a speeding truck, and there was no reason to believe it would unfold any differently in the new movie, right?

And to begin with, the fateful scene appears to follow the same path, with young Gage (Hugo and Lucas Lavoie) running out onto a busy road just as a truck passes by.

Yet Gage's father Louis (Jason Clarke) actually manages to scoop him clear at the last second, seemingly averting disaster.

That is, except that Gage's sister Ellie (Jeté Laurence) is also on the road, and when the truck swerves to avoid Gage and Louis, it catapults its giant trailer directly towards Ellie, killing her instantly.

Granted, one of the film's later trailers did foolishly give this switcheroo away, but if you didn't pay much mind to the marketing this was a genuinely unexpected death that certainly hit hard.
