10 Most Terrifying Christmas Horror Movies
2. Christmas Evil (1980)
When it comes to Christmas horror films, none are as prolific as the Santa slasher. From beloved '80s classics such as the Silent Night, Deadly Night series and Don’t Open ‘Til Christmas, to the more modern iterations of Santa's Slay and the previously mentioned Sint, this list could’ve been stuffed with these films.
However, none are as iconic and downright fascinating as Lewis Jackson’s Christmas Evil. Also known as You Better Watch Out and Terror In Toyland, this super low budget cult classic has more in common with Taxi Driver than it does with your average slasher.
Harry (Brandon Maggart in a menacing performance) is obsessed with Christmas. He works in a toy factory, keeps note of which of his neighbours is naughty or nice, and idolises St Nick as a figure of goodness and justice. It’s because of this that he’s ridiculed by his co-workers and peers until one Christmas Eve where he decides he’s had enough. Painting a sleigh on his van and wearing a Santa outfit, Harry picks up an axe and dishes out punishment to those who’ve wronged him.
Grimy, a little schlocky, and surprisingly thoughtful. Christmas Evil should be at the top of your Christmas list this year.
