3. Prince Of Darkness - Recurring Omen

John Carpenter’s Prince of Darkness sees a group of physics students and their professor embark on a mission to investigate a mysterious object containing weird green liquid. The setting for said investigation is a basement belonging to a cult who communicate through dreams, so you can see how this film might lend itself to this list.

The group discover that the green liquid is the embodiment of the Anti-God (basically Satan’s dad) and that anyone who comes into contact with it becomes possessed and violent. Those who have survived the possessed attacks repeatedly experience a shared dream, in which they see a silhouette emerge from a church, telling them that they are not dreaming but instead receiving a transmission from 1999.

Each recurrence of the dream reveals more details from the transmission, warning the dreamers that they still have time to stop the outcome that would lead to its existence. After one student becomes the vessel for Satan, the group traps her and their fellow associate (Danforth) in another dimension in order to prevent the Anti-God’s emergence.

They think things are all said and done until the end of the film reveals in a dream that Danforth is the figure emerging from the church - they failed to heed the omen and now must unleash the apocalypse. Oops!
