8. Friend Request

Sissy Movie
Warner Bros.

Released in 2016, a key part of Friend Request is a knock-off Facebook app, yet again proving why it’s good to not live out every element of your life online.

With popular college kid Laura Woodson our ‘in’ here, she ends up with a friend request from her loner classmate Marina. While Laura’s pals mock the fact that Marina has zero friends on this totally-not-Facebook platform, Laura decides to click ‘accept’ after being impressed by the various trippy art animations posted by Marina.

From there, Marina becomes obsessed with Laura, stalking her every move both online and in the real world. And when it comes time for Laura’s birthday party, she doesn't want to invite Marina and thus tells her that it's a low-key affair for just her and her boyfriend. Upon seeing the social media snaps of Laura and a bunch of her buddies partying hard in celebration, Marina confronts Laura, the two fight, Laura unfriends her, and Marina takes her own life.

From there, Marina's suicide is uploaded mysteriously to Laura's profile page and cannot be deleted, as she and her friend group are targetted by the spirit of Marina as they delve into her murky past.
