10 Most Underrated 80s Teen Movies

1. Better Off Dead

Better-Off-Dead-1985-80s-films-18237500-1280-720 It€™s possible that this film isn€™t better remembered because its collective viewership has chosen to block it out of their minds. Even John Cusack has gone on record slagging off both the film and its director, Savage Steve Holland. But I cherish every minute of it. I love how it creates this slightly surreal universe for its main character to live in. Not Un Chien Andalou surreal, but just where everything is a little bit€off. Like€the hamburgers at the fast food restaurant might not spontaneously start singing Van Halen. But then again, they might. The whole film plays out like the twisted, slightly perverse twin brother of Say Anything. How can you hate on a movie where a determined paperboy rides a bike down a ski slope to collect a late fee, Japanese brothers who learned English from Howard Cosell will drag race you at every red light, and John Cusack earnestly delivers the line, €œGee, I€™m real sorry your mom blew up, Ricky€?
