10 Most Underrated Disaster Movies Of All Time
4. Only The Brave
Looking at the talent involved and the genuinely effective plot of this 2017 disaster drama, it’s surprising Only the Brave hasn’t been seen by more people. Directed by Joseph Kosinski, the film details the last days of the Granite Mountain Hotshots – firefighters in Arizona who lost their lives during the Yarnell Hill Fire in 2013.
There’s an awful lot to love in this film. With it being a true story, the emotional side of the film is clear going in; it’s going to be a rollercoaster. But what a rollercoaster it is. It’s easy to view the film as generic thriller, but thanks to well-controlled and thoughtful direction from Kosinski and a slew of amazing and respectful performances, Only the Brave is much more than your average biopic; it’s a touching and sentimental picture about true heroes who risked their lives to save others.
The cast is what drives the film.
Led by Josh Brolin, the ensemble is filled out by Miles Teller, James Badge
Dale, Taylor Kitsch, Jennifer Connolly and Jeff Bridges, all of whom take to
their roles a clear sense of respect and passion. Top all that off with
stunning visuals and set pieces, and what you’re left with is a film that
deserves to be seen, with a story that needs to be heard.
