8. Lords Of Chaos

After Happy Death Day 2 U and Lords of Chaos you might be questioning this list, because the latter film in particular was totally divisive when it came out, with its harshest critics slating it both in professional reviews and across social media.

But that's the point of picking underrated movies, isn't it? If everyone agreed each entry on this list was good, they wouldn't be underrated. And, for my money, Lords of Chaos, even when it's bad (and there are certainly bad moments in there), is endlessly interesting.

Jonas Ã…kerlund's horror about the rise of Black Metal will no doubt be controversial for anyone familiar with its subject, and any movie about this culture is inevitably going to feel a touch sanitised and at odds with itself, but that's part of what makes Lords of Chaos so fascinating.

Someone else could have perhaps made a better film at the helm of Lords of Chaos, but nobody could replicate just how singular the release we have is.

And, even without all that that, it's worth sitting through to witness the genuinely visceral finale, which ties the story off in a ridiculously nasty way.
