10 Most Underrated Movie Remakes Since 2000

2. Freaky Friday (2003)

Yes. Seriously. Despite what you think of Lindsay Lohan nowadays (and it can't be a lot), there was a time when the actress was churning out great remakes like it was nobody's business. So whilst The Parent Trap is a family classic, no question, there seems to be a lack of love for the 2003 version of Freaky Friday (which also stars the wonderful Jamie Lee Curtis). The plot, which sees a bickering mother and daughter transferred into each other's bodies, makes for ripe comedy - and whilst said premise could have led to disaster, it actually results in a consistently hilarious flick. Lohan is good in the role of a spoiled teen, but it's Jamie Lee Curtis who outright steals the film as the well-to-do mother who learns to live a little. Indeed, she was even nominated for a Golden Globe (and she should have won). What's more, this updated version is far superior to that of the original film, which was entertaining enough in parts, but lacked the consistent laughs of this remake. There's a manic energy that carries the remake all the way to the credits; it's a blast to sit through. Go on: give it another chance. You know you want to.
