10 Most Underrated Sci-Fi Movies Of The Decade

3. Snowpiercer (2013)

Set rather pertinently in a post-apocalyptic world ravaged by an ice age of man's own making, Snowpiercer is a high-concept sci-fi packed with brilliant characters and performances that practically nobody saw at the time of release (okay, it made money, but less than $90m is nowhere near the level it should have).

Thanks to a creative disagreement with Harvey Weinstein, the film ended up released only on limited release in smaller cinemas initially, before strong reviews saw a wider opening. But the damage had been done by that point and lots of sci-fi fans who would and should have loved it missed it entirely.

It's critically adored, and rightly so because it's beautiful, written so well that its twisty, strange concept is completely accessible and pleasantly intelligent for an action movie. And its drum should be beaten until everyone has seen it.
