10 Most Underrated Star Wars Characters Ever

5. IG-88

Star Wars Lobot
Lucasfilm

Seen but never heard during his time on screen, IG-88 is the droid assassin summoned by Darth Vader to locate the Millennium Falcon during The Empire Strikes Back.

It would be easy to dismiss this killer robot as just another spacey-looking extra that is only on hand to beef up a scene, but IG-88 is actually one of the most interesting killers active in the Star Wars franchise. At 1.96 metres tall, he was one of the few creatures ever seen in the films to tower over Vader, came equipped with ten different weapons ranging from toxic gas to a classic flamethrower, and his remains turning up later on in Bespin remains one of the most interesting easter eggs in the original trilogy.

Following Vader's order to locate the Falcon, IG-88 actually made his way to Cloud City besides Boba Fett where the two Bounty Hunters clashed over who got to claim the Empire's reward. In what would have undoubtedly been a duel up there with the likes of Vader v Luke and Anakin v Obi-Wan, IG-88 lost and his remains were left in the same room that C-3POs later turn up in.
