10 Most Unexpectedly Awesome Movies Of 2015 (So Far)

10. Insidious: Chapter 3

Rotten Tomatoes Score: 63% Insidious, James Wan's tribute to the haunted house movies he loved as a kid, resulted in one of the more memorable horror flicks in recent years - not to mention it made a fair amount of cash at the box office. Which meant, of course, a sequel was inevitable, though Insidious: Chapter 2 felt weightless and inconsequential - a follow-up for the sake of it. So Insidious: Chapter 3 was certain to feel like another unnecessary instalment, right? Uh, wrong, actually. Though it is by no means as scary as the first movie in this franchise, Insidious: Chapter 3 surprised pretty much everyone who sat down to watch it earlier in the year, on account of the fact that it's actually a fun and effective little horror movie. Positioned as a prequel, Chapter 3 manages to feel connected to the first flick whilst working as a solo effort: it's slick, punchy, self-aware, and even builds on the mythology in a way that actually justifies its very existence. Which rarely happens with a part three.
