4. Spy
Rotten Tomatoes Score: 95% The trailer for Spy didn't make the movie look good at all. That's to say, it looked like a familiar James Bond spoof flick with nothing new to add to the comedy genre - not to mention the fact that people's patience seemed to be waring thin as far as actress Melissa McCarthy was concerned, following a series of cinematic flops. Somewhat bewilderingly, though, Spy isn't the unfunny mess everyone assumed it would be - it's actually incredibly competent and downright hilarious from start to end. Audiences probably should have had had more faith, to be honest, given that Paul Feig - director of Bridesmaids - was also behind the camera on this movie (and wrote the script). Yes, just one bad movie before Melissa McCarthy might've been officially declared "box office poison," she unleashes what is probably her most endearing performance to date in a film packed to the brim with great, memorable jokes and a palpable energy that marks it out as one of the most consistent comedy flicks in years. Crazy!
