When lowly supermarket clerk Ashley Williams (Bruce Campbell) wanted was to take off for the weekend with his girlfriend, his sister and his chums - relaxing in a little cabin in the woods with some booze, some pot and an audiobook. What he got instead was the death of everyone and everything he loved. Not to mention demonic possession, multiple portals to the past and future, and the weight and responsibility that goes with being The Chosen One.

An abused everyman in 1981's Evil Dead, Ash is reinvented as an action hero and confident demon slayer in subsequent sequels.

Still, his proficiency wouldn't make him any luckier; ultimately losing his hand and any semblance of a normal life to the Deadite army. A combination of bad luck and bone-headedness would see Ash stranded in a dystopian future - twice - doomed to repeat his mistakes over and over again. Not groovy at all.
