10 Most Unnerving Shots In Horror Movies

5. Girl In The Tent - The Sixth Sense

In The Sixth Sense, psychiatrist Malcolm Crowe (Bruce Willis) tries to help a troubled boy named Cole (Haley Joel Osment), who is being tormented by ghosts. Malcolm believes Cole should use his power to help the spirits resolve their unfinished business.

This is easier said than done, since ghosts are really, really scary. After hearing a strange noise in his house, Cole knows a phantom is nearby, and so hides inside his makeshift tent. After the tent roof comes undone, Cole sees the spirit of a gaunt girl called Kyra in front of him, vomiting profusely.

What makes this scene highly effective is how this ghost isn't depicted in a conventionally scary way. Instead, she appears to be terrified, confused, and in a great deal of pain.

What's worse is that it's later revealed Kyra is puking because her step-mother poisoned her to death. Although a lot of jump-scares lose their power when rewatched, this moment is more disturbing when viewers understand how Kyra met her demise.

Kyra may not have been the first ghost seen in the film, but she was the most unsettling.
