3. To Be Inserted Into Scenes With Her Late Mother, Carrie Fisher - Billie Lourd

Princess Leia actress Carrie Fisher sadly passed away in late 2016, and though Fisher had already wrapped shooting her role in The Last Jedi, her death threw production of The Rise of Skywalker into a tailspin.

J.J. Abrams ultimately decided to use unreleased footage Fisher shot for The Force Awakens and digitally manipulate it in order to give Leia presence in the sequel trilogy's finale.

Abrams attempted to treat the process as delicately as possible, being especially considerate towards Fisher's daughter Billie Lourd, who appears in the sequel trilogy as Resistance Lieutenant Kaydel Ko Connix.

However, Lourd ultimately surprised Abrams by requesting that he place her in as many scenes with her mother as possible. In Abrams' own words:

"I purposely had written [Lourd's] character in scenes without Carrie, because I just didn't want it to be uncomfortable for her... [But Lourd told him], 'I want to be in scenes with her. I want it for my children when I have kids. I want them to see.'"

Though Fisher's role as Leia in The Rise of Skywalker is ultimately a piecemeal one, Lourd did get her wish, with mother and daughter fleetingly appearing together on the rebel base.
