André René Roussimoff - better known to movie fans as André the Giant - was inevitably going to be limited to the kind of roles he got to play in films. When you're seven feet four inches tall and weigh in at around 520lb casting agents are going to be restricted when it comes to offering parts which don't require you to be, well, a giant. After working as a farm labourer for many years, André made the move into professional wrestling where he became an instant success - it was WWF legend Vince McMahon who suggested he change his name to André the Giant, and an incredible undefeated streak soon followed as well as an infamous feud with Hulk Hogan. It was only towards the end of his career when André decided to try out acting, appearing in Conan The Destroyer and, most notably, The Princess Bride. Known as a prolific drinker and considered by many to personify the "gentle giant", he died in 1993 at the age of 43.
