6. Kiki’s Delivery Service
This 1989 masterpiece from Hayao Miyazaki, based on the novel of the same name by Eiko Kadono, is a tale of witchcraft to rival J K Rowling’s series. The story follows Kiki, a young witch who, after coming of age, must leave home and find her purpose in the big wide world.
After struggling to find a use for herself, she sets up a delivery service for a town’s local bakery – she does have a broom, after all. It’s a quaint childhood story about finding one’s place in the world, and is guaranteed to raise the spirits.
