10 Most Useless Star Wars Characters

5. The Knights of Ren

Apart from Supreme Leader Snoke, the Knights of Ren became a hot topic when they were introduced in The Force Awakens. The film only contained a short scene with the group, as well as briefly mentioning them occasionally during its runtime, and so it was up to the following two pictures to explain and expand on these mysterious warriors.

However, what we got was anything but satisfying. The group didn't appear at all in The Last Jedi, and their inclusion in The Rise of Skywalker contributed nothing more than a brief fight with a redeemed Ben Solo on Exegol.

Whilst their live-action appearances are substandard, the group is significantly expanded on through the Star Wars comic book line. The comics revealed the Knights of Ren had existed long before the First Order and were prevalent during the Imperial Era, though this was a different group than the warriors we see in the sequels. The Knights were infamous throughout the galaxy, pillaging every planet they visited, and were known to be dark side practitioners, with the group eventually being hired by the crime syndicate, Crimson Dawn, to challenge Vader and Sidious.

Even so, the films demonstrate how useless the Knights of Ren are. Other than temporarily capturing Chewbacca on Pasaana, the Knights failed to seize the crew of the Falcon during the events of The Rise of Skywalker and finally died at the hands of a redeemed Kylo, achieving nothing throughout the Sequel Trilogy.
