10 Most Visually Arresting Moments In The DCEU

4. Diving Into The Abyss - Aquaman

As mentioned before, Aquaman’s insane visual sensibilities made it one of the more memorable DCEU offerings, and its go big or go home approach was fairly well received by audiences who knew what to expect from a film about a super-charged merman who talks to fish.

The most picturesque sequence comes towards the end of the second act when Arthur and Mera are being pursued by the vicious Trench as they search for King Atlan’s trident. The set piece starts off on a boat during a storm before it makes its way underwater.

The flare that Arthur and Mera employ to ward off the ferocious creatures illuminates the Trench's sheer number and this is well-captured in a way that conveys how overwhelmed Arthur and Mera are. The decision to cut back and forth between a close-up shot of the characters' frenzied dive and a grandiose wide shot serves the scene's intensity.

Though brief, its Lovecraftian structure ensures that the sequence will not be forgotten by audiences any time soon.
