9. Mardi Gras Massacre (1978)
Apparently a homage to/remake of Herschell Gordon Lewis' seminal gore fest, Blood Feast, Mardi Gras Massacre lacks all of Blood Feast's goofy, gory charm. In fact, it is of such little consequence that no film producer has put the film forward to the BBFC for re-release ever since it was banned. Basically, there is a masked killer taking advantage of the hotties during Mardi Gras. He wants to slaughter them and make an altar to some unpronounceable Aztec god. Mardi Gras Massacre is a woeful film, but unlike some of the stinkers on this list, it does provoke a few titters. Stupid dialogue, lame gore, terrible editing, bad dubbing, a 70s porno soundtrack, bizarre happenings a-go-go, Mardi Gras Massacre is worth catching on YouTube for video nasty completists and lovers of camp horror films.

My first film watched was Carrie aged 2 on my dad's knee. Educated at The University of St Andrews and Trinity College Dublin. Fan of Arthouse, Exploitation, Horror, Euro Trash, Giallo, New French Extremism. Weaned at the bosom of a Russ Meyer starlet. The bleaker, artier or sleazier the better!
