Also known by its slightly more exciting title, Psycho Puppets, Delirium cannot be taken seriously by video nasty fans in the UK for the reason that it uses the soundtrack to BBC quiz show Mastermind. When you quit laughing at the incongruity of a piece of movie trash utilising this music, you half expect Magnus Magnusson to appear around the corner and say, "I've started so I'll finish". Soundtrack aside, Delirium basically deals with a Vietnam veteran who is hired by a secret group of right wingers to deal out justice to criminals who have been let off from going to jail through legal loopholes. He goes crazy and starts slaughtering anyone and everything - particularly pretty young women. A bizarre mixture of sleaze and drama, there are plenty of recreations of Vietnam War battles which look like they have been shot in a park down the road. There is also abundant nudity, with blonde beauties all too willing to strip naked to act as fodder for gruesome murders. The film feels like part inept cop flick and part slasher, with a soupçon of Vietnam war footage thrown into the mix. Now what is your specialist subject?
My first film watched was Carrie aged 2 on my dad's knee. Educated at The University of St Andrews and Trinity College Dublin. Fan of Arthouse, Exploitation, Horror, Euro Trash, Giallo, New French Extremism. Weaned at the bosom of a Russ Meyer starlet. The bleaker, artier or sleazier the better!
