The real merit of Netflix as a release platform is they can get away with releasing more unexpected movies that won't be subject to the same sort of box office scrutiny and might actually be seen by more because of Netflix's captive audience. Hence them being happy to put out terrible Adam Sandler comedies and taking on movies that studios aren't even sure hwo to market (like The Cloverfield Paradox).

One of their next big, weird projects is the Will Ferrell comedy focusing on The Eurovision Song Contest, which is about as odd a pitch as you're likely to hear. He's already turned his hand to competitive figure skating, so he knows a thing or two about ridiculous pageantry.

And while that competition would be perfect for Christopher Guest to write something, Ferrell's brand of comedy might well make for a reasonable alternative. It's still likely to be one of the strangest comedy movies released in the next few years, though.
