10 Movie "Sequels" That Were Really Just Remakes
2. Texas Chainsaw
The "Sequel": A direct follow-up to the 1974 movie that ignores the increasingly terrible sequels, 2013's Texas Chainsaw sees Heather Miller (Alexandra Daddario) and her pals visit the Sawyer family home to collect her inheritance...which also includes Leatherface (Dan Yeager).
Why It's Just A Remake: While it does contain the original film within its continuity, the A-to-Z is very similar: in both movies, a young woman and her friends are motivated by the death of the protagonist's grandparent, and after arriving at a creepy house, the friends all get mercilessly butchered leaving the protagonist as the sole survivor.
There are definitely some fundamental differences (namely the peculiar decision to make Leatherface into an anti-hero at the end of the new movie), but the first 90% of the film basically follows the same well-trod path. The links to the original events are tangential at best, and Hell, it's even got basically the same title.
