10 Movie "Sequels" That Were Really Just Remakes

1. Star Wars: The Force Awakens

The "Sequel": Taking place some thirty years after Return of the Jedi, new heroes Rey (Daisy Ridley), Finn (John Boyega) and Poe (Oscar Isaac) seek out Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) while facing off against the dangerous Kylo Ren (Adam Driver).

Why It's Just A Remake: The Force Awakens is, for better and for worse, a stealth remake of A New Hope, making us forget about the terrible prequels but also somewhat lazily leaning on audience nostalgia for the original movie.

Where to begin? Rey and Poe in particular are basically new versions of Luke and Hanthere are scenes of Rey walking in the desert just like Luke, Jakku is basically the new Tatooine, Kylo is the new Darth Vader, General Hux (Domhnall Gleeson) is the new Moff Tarkin, Captain Phasma (Gwendoline Christie) is the new Boba Fett, there's an R2-like droid which holds crucial resistance information, the Starkiller Base is the new Death Star (including a major show of force half-way through the movie and a similarly ridiculous weakness), and the movie ends with a trench-run too.

Most fans didn't seem to mind too much, even though Episode VIII will hopefully be much more adventurous now that they've nailed down their audience with this incredibly safe quasi-remake of A New Hope.

Which stealth remakes annoyed you the most? Shout them out in the comments!
