10 Movie Actors Who Can't Escape Their Most Iconic Role

2. Mark Hamill - Luke Skywalker (Star Wars)

Fans of the DC Universe may protest against Hamill's inclusion, given his stellar vocal work as the Joker in several Batman TV series, films and video games over the last 23 years, but it's his lead role in arguably the greatest movie franchise in American cinema history that he will be most remembered for. It is nearly four decades since Hamill made his debut as Luke Skywalker in Star Wars, with generations of film fans growing up in awe of the iconic Jedi Knight. So pervasive is the role, Hamill will reprise it in the upcoming The Force Awakes, due to be released in December 2015. After the original Star Wars trilogy came to a close in 1983 Hamill sought to avoid being typecast and gained recognition for his role as Private Griff in The Big Red One, but his film credits since then are few and far between. In fact, the bulk of his work comes in the shape of TV cameo roles - most notably on Chuck and Criminal Minds.
