10 Movie Actors With Far More Range Than You Think
6. Angela Bassett
Without a doubt, one of the most talented actresses in the world, Angela Bassett received critical acclaim for her performances in Malcolm X and as Tina Turner in the biopic: What's Love Got To Do With It and the 1990's looked to be hers to dominate.
Things didn't quite pan out that way as Bassett's roles became progressively more typecast as time went by. Her commanding presence on screen led to a number of roles portraying somewhat unfairly stereotypical African-American females who oozed sass but lacked depth.
Happily, as time progressed, Bassett started to secure more developed roles in some high profile series but it was the riskier roles that really showed her capabilities as an actress to a wider audience than anything before.
Her debut in American Horror Story: Coven, for example, was something no-one could really have predicted: her incredibly serious take on the character of Marie Laveau was nuanced to perfection without even the mildest notion of overacting.
Aside of her serious roles, she has also taken on the more fantastical as many recognise her as Ramonda in the MCU and even dabbled in the comedic as she provided the voice of Ana in the divisive BoJack Horseman.
Truly, Angela Bassett is one of Hollywood's finest chameleons.
