10 Movie Adaptations That Should Have Been TV Shows
9. Never Let Me Go
Kazuo Ishiguro’s dystopian novel about the moral complexities of cloning is a remarkable piece of science-fiction storytelling. Whilst the movie adaptation was far from terrible, it did not manage to capture the essence of this great work.
Ishiguro’s story follows three central characters from childhood to early adulthood, and the main issue with the film was that each stage of this progression simply wasn’t long enough. The book also had a strong sense of mystery and suspense that the adaptation failed to replicate.
With a television show, however, it would have been much easier to build such an atmosphere whilst simultaneously giving the characters more time to develop.
Granted, the original novel is only three-hundred pages in length, meaning a television adaptation wouldn’t need to be very long. But given the power of Ishiguro’s message, Never Let Me Go should have been adapted in its totality.
